doctor, doctor...

I just spent a buncha time watching Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long again. It amuses me.

satday

Walking in the door from a Gold Canyon "party". I use quotes because it was a party of me. And the host. And the demo person. Fortunately, I enjoyed the products and didn't feel pressured to buy, so I bought. The demo was good, at least she didn't stick to a script with just two of us there. She was conversational instead of sales-pitchy. Probably the reason I ended up buying.

Before that I had lunch with a newly-engaged friend. She is practical and doesn't have her heads in the clouds about planning. Which is quite different than most of the other brides I've talked to recently. We laughed away an hour and a half which is always a good way to spend a Saturday.

Otherwise, I spent the entire morning in bed, lazing. I was such a slug. It felt good. I worked hard this week, it was a good week, it was really busy and I needed to recharge.

Now I'm ready for weekly shopping with my sister. Woo. Such a life.

hello, handsome...

i wish...

Congress would stop giving themselves standing ovations. Wassup with that? I should be counting (I can't believe I'm not counting something) the number of syllables that pass between ovations. Usually I'm all over stuff like that.

And it would be a fun drinking game to drink every time President Obama says, "Let me be very clear..." Or every time Pelosi smirks. Nah, I'd be soused by now.

All this talk of strengthening education... believe it when I see it. 'Cus right now it ain't happenin'.

Cynical much? Why yes...

back at it...

Ya know... today was actually a pretty good day. Being super-organized helped me make the leap from vacation laziness to business as usual. Plus, I had everything I might possibly need ready to go--photocopies, overheads, handouts... you name it, I was ready!

And after school I got some more puppy love. Maggie is so cute! She was laying in my lap for a belly rub. With a little slobber on my glasses from the face kisses, too.

You Crave a Purposeful Life

Your dream is to live a life where you make a difference. You want to effect people.

You don't need to be the one who changes the world, but you would like to change a few lives.

You want to be generous and warm-hearted toward others. Life is hard enough as is.

You believe life is mostly about how you treat other people. What kind of person you are matters.

You Are Coffee

You are highly ambitious and goal oriented. You feel like there isn't enough time in your day to get it all done.

You are outgoing and creative. You love talking with people, thinking up crazy plans, and then acting immediately on them.

When it comes to caffeine, you'd like a refill. You can almost always use an energy boost.

fast trip...

We ate at a great Italian restaurant called Pesce Blue. What a fantastic time--a great meal and great conversation. All in all, the trip was fast adn furious. We ended up staying in Portsmouth at a cheesy hotel, toodling through Exeter this morning for breakfast and then on to Manchester to meet Maggie. Funny how the ride down didn't seem as long as the ride home. But we beat the storm and that's a good thing. Plus, Maggie did a great job on the ride--didn't whine much and slept most of the way. She did get a little playful which is when she slobbered all over my face and glasses, but overall she was a very, very good dog.

ready and raring...

Everything is neatly packed. Actually, it's all repacked. I had to repack everything because I'm having some OCD anxiety. Good thing I see the doctor later this week, I can talk about not sleeping well lately and fretting about packing... and other stuff. I was worried last night that someone would break into Dad's house and it would cancel our trip. Worried isn't even the right word, but I don't think there is a word for how obsessed I was about it. Makes no sense. No sense at all.

Anyhow, I am packed, have fresh batteries for my camera, charger for my phone and socks. I'm good to go.

Back tomorrow!

winter in maine...

It's winter in ME

And the gentle breezes blow

Seventy miles an hour

At thirty-five below.

Oh, how I love ME

When the snow's up to your butt

You take a breath of winter

And your nose gets frozen shut.

Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave ME
Cause I'm frozen to the ground!

we all scream for ice cream...

I've been on quite an ice cream kick lately. It started with Edy's Girl Scout cookie Tagalong flavor, but now I'm into Breyers Black Raspberry Chocolate.

So, I'm wondering: if you could make your own ice cream flavor, what would it be?

good news

Yay! Make your own here!

getting ready to go...

So, tomorrow I'm heading to Portland with my parents to pick up their Bichon Frise rescue dog. She's a fifteen month-old whose owner passed away in December. Instead of getting a puppy, we're getting a trained puppy! And I'm thrilled that I get to go with them. It's like I get to have a dog without all the responsibilities! I'll take lots of pictures.

so far...

It doesn't feel like vacation. Maybe I have to wait until Monday for that. I should make some plans for the week, to get out of town or something. I'm heading out at some point with Dad & Barb to get the dog. I should find out when. But that's not the same as getting out of town by myself. Meh. It's vacation. I'm on vacation. Roll with it, baby.

single, not desperate...

what's your valentine's day personality?

Your Valentine's Day Personality is Practical

As far as you're concerned, Valentine's Day is simply a commercial holiday.

You don't place any real meaning on it. You don't think it deserves too much celebration.

For you, Valentine's Day is just the day you avoid restaurants and candy stores.

If you love someone, you already show it. You don't need to go all out for a silly holiday to prove your love.

made it!

I'm on vacation!

what girl scout cookie are you?

You Are Peanut Butter Sandwiches / Do-si-dos

You are easy going and naturally happy. You don't need a lot to make you smile.

You genuinely care about people and are a great friend. You're always doing your best to make the world a better place.

Even though there isn't an immature bone in your body, you still are like a big kid sometimes.

Why make life complicated when the best parts are actually quite simple? You enjoy the small joys of life.

Love the description, hate the cookie.

ten things tuesday...

Ten random facts about Valentine's Day plus a few more, because I'm a nerd and couldn't cut it down to ten:

- 192 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged annually, making Valentine’s Day the second-most popular greeting-card-giving occasion. (This total excludes packaged kids valentines for classroom exchanges.) (Source: Hallmark research)

- Nearly 60 percent of all Valentine’s Day cards are purchased in the six days prior to the observance, making Valentine’s Day a procrastinator’s delight. (Source: Hallmark research)

- 2.2 million marriages take place in the United States annually. That breaks down to more than 6,000 a day.

- 145,800 marriages are performed in Nevada during 2004. So many couples “tie the knot” in the Silver State that it ranked fourth nationally in marriages, even though its total population that year among states was 35th.

- The estimated U.S. median ages at first marriage for women and men are 25.8 and 27.4 respectively, in 2004. The age for women rose 4.7 years in the last three decades. The age for men at first marriage is up 4.3 years.

- 1,271 locations produced chocolate and cocoa products in 2003. These establishments employed 43,379 people. California led the nation in the number of such establishments (with 146) followed by Pennsylvania (with 120).

- 519 locations produced nonchocolate confectionary products in 2003. These establishments employed 23,343 people.

- The total value of shipments in 2003 for firms producing chocolate and cocoa products was $13.5 billion. Nonchocolate confectionery product manufacturing, meanwhile, was a $5.5 billion industry.

- 3,523 Number of confectionery and nut stores in the United States in 2003. Often referred to as candy stores, they are among the best sources of sweets for Valentine’s Day.

- The per capita consumption of candy by Americans in 2004 was 4.7 pounds. Candy consumption has actually declined over the last few years; in 1997, each American gobbled or savored more than 27 pounds of candy a year.

- The combined wholesale value of domestically produced cut flowers in 2004 for all flower-producing businesses in 36 states with $100,000 or more in sales was $422 million was. Among states, California was the leading producer, alone accounting for nearly three-quarters of this amount ($304 million).

- The combined wholesale value of domestically produced cut roses in 2004 for all businesses in 36 states with $100,000 or more in sales was $43 million. Among all types of cut flowers, roses were second in receipts to lilies ($78 million).

- There were 22,022 florists nationwide in 2003. These businesses employed 113,270 people.

- There were 28,527 jewelry stores in the United States in 2003. Jewelry stores offer engagement, wedding and other rings to lovers of all ages. In February 2005, these stores sold $2.4 billion worth of merchandise. (This figure has not been adjusted for seasonal variation, holiday or trading day differences or price changes.) .The merchandise at these locations could well have been produced at one of the nation’s 1,892 jewelry manufacturing establishments. The manufacture of jewelry was an $8.6 billion industry in 2003.

pathetic = me

Why do I feel guilty because I want to go to sleep early? I think because I've been waiting and looking forward all week for the weekend, I think I'm pathetic to waste it. On the other hand...

how warm are you?

You Are Warm

You are as patient, as outgoing, and as nice as you can be.

You understand people well, and you mostly enjoy being around them.

You are a naturally warm person, but you do have times when you're feeling a bit distant.

But even when you're feeling distant, you try to be empathetic. You always go the extra mile.
